Morning had arrived, Ember slept soundly, curled up in the arms of Shyera. Jaga had stood guard all night long. Shyera had told stories to Ember until she fell asleep well past 3 intervals in the morning. Shyera was to be taken at 9 intervals to be executed. Her once long luxurious silver hair had been cut to show the world the shame of the crimes of which she had been unjustly accused. Soft white sunbeams were already streaking across the room, from the small, barred window in the cell. Everything was eerily silent.
As if on cue, a door banged loudly at the end of the hall. It woke Ember, who rubbed her eyes sleepily. Heavy boots could be heard, making their way to Shyera's room. Jaga entered first, followed by the guards. Shyera, nobly stood, still holding Ember, placing the child in the arms of the man she knew only as Tata Jaga. Without words, Shyera, the guards, and Jaga and Ember brought up the rear.
The somber band slowly made their way to a courtyard. The courtyard had a large chamber, which would be used as part of the execution. Jareth, Taya, and clerics were present to witness Shyera's death. A camera was set up to publicly show the consequences to those that would think to defy the empire. Honored officials were no exception to the harshest of punishments.
All were in place. One of Shyera's escorts, moved forward to open the chamber door, allowing Shyera to enter. The door closed behind Shyera and Ember started getting restless in Jaga's arms. Instinctively, she knew something bad was happening and wanted it to stop. Jaga held the child firmly in place as she struggled to try to get to her Tata Shyera. Jareth with a creepy little smile on his face, moseyed over to a valve and moved the switch to the 'on' position.
Inside the chamber, a mixture of liquid nitrogen and carbonite liquid started filling the tube at Shyera's feet. Her body was instantly freezing, piece by piece. The ordeal was unbearably painful, however Shyera remained silent and stoic, staring at Ember through a small oval glass-like window, offering silent comfort.
The frigid semi-liquid, climbed higher and higher. The extreme cold was shutting down Shyera's vital organs. She could feel herself slipping into unconsciousness. Outside the chamber, Ember was going wild, but she couldn't break free of her Taiyate's grasp. Upon seeing Shyera's eyes close for the last time, Ember threw herself against Jaga's chest sobbing uncontrollably. Jaga himself was crying, pulling the child closer, as he started rubbing Ember's back, whispering soft words of comfort in her ear that were inaudible.
A monitor on the death chamber, kept track of Shyera's vital signs. When the monitor stopped beeping for longer than 5 partials, Shyera would officially be declared dead and able to be buried in the traditional way. The clerics carefully removed Shyera's body from the chamber, carrying it on a stone slab to the family crematorium. They burned the remains, while Jaga said the final prayer, for his lost Tane. Shyera's ashes were spread over the creek where she save Jun, so many years ago.
At the end of the day, Jaga wanted to get the hell away from Undinai. He ventured back to the shuttle and placed a sleeping Ember in the bunk. She was still crying softly in her sleep. Jaga, as quietly as he could, closed the door of the shuttle and took off on his long journey back to Acen. It had been a long and terrible day.
