The shuttle craft had just landed on the planet, and the doors opened. Peering from under the handkerchief, Ember could see a soft white blanket of snow, split in half by a narrow, gray walkway with unique intricately cut stone in it. A couple of yards away from the walkway a line of what looked like pine trees with small pale blue flowers on the branches.
Jaga was carrying Ember, as he stepped out of the craft. He was supposed to be greeted, by that flake of a woman, Taya. Upon seeing Undinai for the first time, Ember was mesmerized by everything, especially the trees. She had never seen trees before, as she had spent her entire life on Jaga's ship. Gently, she reached to try to touch one of the green and white things with little blue dots. Jaga, noticing her curiosity walks over to a low branch, holsters Ember on one hip, and with a free hand, plucks a flower from a branch, to give to the child.
Jaga: These trees grow all over the planet, Jem-Padet.
Ember: It's pretty.
Jaga: These flowers are called 'Shyera.' They only bloom at this time of year. My Tane was named for them.
Ember: Soft and cold.
Taya: Uhhh.
At the sound of a new voice, Jaga turns around still holding Ember. In the center of the walk stood a tall slender woman with long, straight, dark, brown hair. She was dressed in a flowing, silvery gown, which was the traditional garb for the High Priestess of the Religion. Jaga frowned, recognizing the lady.
Jaga: Taya.
Taya: Hello, I'm sorry I wasn't here earlier. I got help up.
Jaga: I've come to see Shyera. I brought her Taiyane.
Jareth: Another Mongrel?
Jareth appeared suddenly behind Taya. The sight of him turned Jaga's stomach. Ember, on the other hand, while she didn't react to Taya, in Jareth's presence, she clung closer to Jaga as if frightened of something.
Jaga: (Glaring)I'd like to see Shyera, now.
Jareth: Of course, offer whatever kind words you can, to the condemned. Taya will show you the way.
Jaga wanted to punch Jareth, but never got the chance. As quickly as he had slithered in, Jareth was gone again. Instead, Jaga was carrying Ember and following this inane woman, while she chatted ignorantly about nothing important. Jaga's mood cooled when he saw the tiny cell where Shyera had spent the last three years.
Jaga: (turning to Taya) Leave now.
Taya: B-b-but.
Jaga: SHE IS MY TANE. GET OUT!!!
Taya, jumped like a frightened rabbit and ran away. Jaga pulled out his master key, only given to council members, opening the door. Inside, Shyera looked frail as she sat on the small bed. Her, once spectacular, religious robe was faded, dirty, and torn. Jaga could tell she was trying to be brave, so he wouldn't be concerned. The situation was dire, Shyera was scheduled to be executed in the morning.
Shyera: Jaga. It's good to see you. You seem to have brought a Jem-Padet with you.
Jaga never understood how Shyera knew these things, she always just did. Anyways, Jaga put Ember down, so she could walk over and meet the woman she knew only as Taiyate. Jaga never revealed the true relationship between the three, for fear it would confuse Ember. Ember boldly, walks over to the fallen Priestess, smiles, and bows, in a polite greeting.
Ember: Hi.
Shyera: Hello, how are you, young lady?
Ember: I'm fine. You're a nice lady.
Shyera: Thank you.
Ember: Why are you in here?
Shyera: Jareth thinks I did something bad, and wants me here, until I go away, tomorrow.
Ember: (scrunching her little face)I don't like Jareth.
Shyera: (chuckles, drawing Ember into her arms, whispering) I don't like him either.
The scene of mother and daughter was a little disturbing for Jaga, considering what was to happen tomorrow. Jaga, discreetly, exited the room, standing guard outside, while the girls what would probably be their only meeting.
