AN: in this chapter, a Convent is a place of only pregnant women and their attendants, NOT a place where women study to become nuns.
Chapter 3 (five years later)
Shyera was feeling restless. She had spent the last 36 weeks in the convent awaiting the birth of her baby. For the past five years, she had done what she could to avoid Jareth. Finally, he cornered her, and they conceived the child inside her. Shyera was frustrated, she didn't want to marry Jareth, but she had to sacrifice to save the people on the outskirts. She attempted to meditate to calm her nerves. Shyera fell into a deep trance.
She saw a single candle flame, flickering, with no candle, in her vision. The flame came closer to Shyera. She wasn't frightened, fire was always a powerful and constant guide. Shyera tried to speak to the fire, but there was no reply, from the flame. Suddenly, the fire swirled around the priestess, faster and faster. Then, it shrank to a tiny ember and entered Shyera's stomach.
Shyera snapped out of the vision. Her stomach was causing her intense pain. Her labor pains had started. Shyera ordered her attendants to come to her aide, the child was coming, now. The attendants gathered, and guided Shyera to a stone slab to give birth to her baby. It was a smooth delivery, but at the end, Shyera was exhausted. An attendant brought the newly born infant to be viewed by her mother. Shyera opened a single tired eye to see the squirming bundle, wrapped in a blanket. She sat bolt upright, when she saw a thin coating of hair, Bright red. The child's eyes were still closed and Shyera couldn't see the color of them, but she knew. This child was the reincarnation of Fire, herself. Jareth would not be pleased.
Fire, only appeared when there was something wrong, that needed to be made right, again. Fire was the judge of all people. Jareth was corrupt and causing, too many problems. He liked the way things were, and Fire's appearance would take all that away. The child would be in danger if Jareth got his hands on her.
Shyera: Call the baby Ember and contact Jaga. DO NOT ALLOW JARETH TO KNOW WHAT HAS HAPPENED.
Attendant: Of course, milady.
The attendant left and Shyera's head was swimming in thought and emotion. It was the duty of the Council of Undinai to protect and care for the embodiment of Fire. Jareth was erratic and irrational if he did not get his way. He would kill the child or corrupt it to his own will. Shyera couldn't let that happen.
Shyera finally passed from exhaustion. When she awoke, Jaga was standing beside her.
Jaga: I received your message. What is it?
Shyera: My baby is Fire.
Jaga: I understand, what do you want me to do.
Shyera: Take her, raise her away from Jareth. He would kill her if he knew.
Jaga: I know, he forced you into marrying him, by holding up the council meeting and allowing all those people to get killed.
Shyera: Exactly, please, take, my child, Ember, and go, before he has the chance to hurt her.
Jaga: But, what about you? He will know the baby is gone. You know the laws... he could have you killed for this treason.
Shyera: I am well aware. But, Ember is in more danger. Protect her, Jaga.
Jaga: Very well.
Jaga left to take Ember from the convent. Shyera fell back against her bed, in grief.
Shyera: Deities, watch over Ember. Keep her safe.
Shyera sobbed until she fell asleep, again.
