Chapter 2
Jareth found the secluded room with Shyera. Sneering, he entered. Shyera felt the presence of someone disturbing her solitude, and looked up from her kneeling position. Upon seeing the intruder, she was on her feet in a flash.
Shyera: What are you doing here?!?
Jareth: I've come with a proposal.
Shyera: Save it, for cham---
Jareth: You want to save the people on the outskirts?
Shyera: What are you up, to?
Jareth: Nothing, my future Queen.
Shyera: QUEEN?!? You honestly think I'll marry you?!?
Jareth: You will if you want to save them...
Jareth left leaving Shyera dumbfounded. She wanted desperately to stop the killings on the out-lands. The council couldn't act unless they were united. Jaga came rushing in. He looked horrified.
Jaga: I'VE HEARD NEWS FROM THE OUTER PLANETS!!!!
Shyera: Jaga, what is it? You are as pale as a sheet!
Jaga: Chandar has been attacked! Those murderers have killed, Maya.
Maya was Jaga's wife. She lived on the planet Chandar. They had a child together, Jarek. Jarek was 10 years old.
Shyera: I'm sorry, Jaga. Something must be done. We have to protect them no matter what it takes.
Shyera embraced her grieving brother. She released him and left the room, her head held low. Jaga's loss was a severe blow. It only solidified the need to protect the outskirts. Shyera wandered the halls blindly lost in thought. In her wanderings, she found herself at the council chamber. Jareth was waiting outside.
Jareth: Sooo, have you given thought to our discussion?
Shyera: (Snapped out of her reverie.) The killings must stop.
Jareth: What is your answer?
Shyera: (glaring) I will be your queen.
The words tasted like acid. Jareth didn't reply, just turned and entered the chamber. He was quite pleased with himself. Jaga arrived, completely lost in misery. Shyera sighed, placed an arm around her brother and together, they walked into the council chamber, and silently sat in their appointed chairs. Shyera was burning holes into Jareth with her eyes the entire time.
Jareth: Jaga, my dear man, you look like you have seen a ghost.
Jaga: My wife has been killed on the outer-zone.
Jareth: I am truly sorry. After much thought, I have conceded. We must protect our people. By all means, put an end to those marauders, by any means possible.
Jareth smiled sweetly at Shyera, causing her to writhe in her seat. Jaga looked up shocked.
Jaga: Thank-you, so it is unanimous, finally. I will move ships into the area to stop the attacks, immediately.
Jaga rushed out and contacted the fleet, so they could move in and clean up the area. Jareth sidled over to Shyera, placing an arm around her shoulders, only to have it shrugged off.
Jareth: Now, Now, is that anyway to treat you future husband.
Shyera attempted to slap Jareth, however, he hadn't caught her hand.
Jareth: You WILL learn respect, or you will not last long as queen.
Jareth squeezed Shyera's hand tightly almost breaking it, then suddenly releasing and exiting quickly to make the official public announcement, regarding the meeting. Jaga was already waiting. Several minutes after Jareth's arrival, Shyera entered slowly and rubbing her hand that was starting to bruise. As Jareth spoke to the people, he added the upcoming marriage ceremony that was to take place between Shyera and Himself. Jaga glanced sharply at his sister. She stared at the ground and could not return his gaze. one word coursed through Jaga's mind... DAMN.
